It was “Duel” week on Dancing On Ice in week 3 with the ten couples matched against each other in five individual duels. The duelling couples skated together with the winner decided by the judges. Each winning couple is guaranteed a place in next week’s show, with the losers going into the public telephone vote. The duellists were matched by pairing the same positions in the leaderboard from week 1 and week 2.

Duel 1 was Matt Lapinskas and Brianne Delcourt versus Gareth Thomas and Robin Johnstone. They skated to The Devil Went Down To Georgia. It was a 4-0 win for Matt Lapinskas who was through to next week’s show. Gareth Thomas will have to rely on the audience vote.
Ashley: Gareth you were a powerhouse. But I save Matt
Robin: Great energy from both of you. Gareth you have good footwork but need to improve musicality. Matt you were the opposite. I’m saving Matt.
Louis: It was more Brokeback On Ice than Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I’m saving Matt.
Karen: A really committed performance from both of you, I’m saving Matt.
Duel 2 was Samia Ghadie and Sylvain Longchambon v Luke Campbell and Jenna Smith. They skated to Will.i.am & Eva Simons song This is Love. It was 4-0 to Samia Ghadie with the judges so Luke goes to the viewer vote to get through to next week.
Robin: Luke strong and in control. Samia you were committed and fast. I’m saving Samia.
Jason: Samia you really stepped it up tonight. Luke it was Olympically bad. If you enjoyed skating it then tell your face. I’m saving Samia.
Ashley: Luke you did a great job. I think you both did well. I’m saving Samia.
Karen: You both did a great job. I’m going to save Samia.

Duel 3 was Beth Tweddle and Dan Whiston v Oona King and Mark Hanretty. The music was The Eurythmics & Aretha Franklin version of Sisters Are Doing it For Themselves. It was 50:50 whether Beth would skate after a stomach bug but her competitive spirit came to the fore and she appeared on the ice ready to go. Beth Tweddle beat Oona 4-0 in the judges vote.
Karen: Oona you have that skating ability. Beth well done for getting here. I’m saving Beth.
Jason: Baroness, that skate was barren of anything. Beth you should be sick more often as that was a big improvement on last time. I’m saving Beth.
Robin: Ooona you need a bit of fire. Beth you need to bring the skating up in standard. I’m saving Beth.
Ashley: You both did well. I’m saving Beth.

Duel 4 was Anthea Turner and Andrew Buchanan v Shayne Ward and Maria Filippov who skated to James Morrison & Nelly Furtado’s song Broken Strings. It was another clean sweep with Anthea Turner winning the judges vote 4-0.
Jason: Anthea you have such grace. However it isn’t as confident as it could be. I’m saving Anthea.
Ashley: Shayne you need to commit to the lyrics. Anthea tonight you committed 100%. I’m saving Anthea.
Robin: Shayne stop being mechanical and be more emotional. Anthea keep on improving your skating as you did tonight.I’m saving Anthea.
Karen: I’m saving Anthea.

The final duel was Keith Chegwin and Olga Sharutenko v Joe Pasquale and Vicky Ogden skating to Sam & Dave’s I’m A Soul Man. It was the five clean sweep of the night with Keith Chegwin winning 4-0 and Joe Pasquale dependent on the public telephone vote. Joe said he tried to bring some James Brown to his performance but it ended up more Gordon Brown.
Karen: It was return of the Chuckle brothers. Joe you are pure entertainment. Keith your skating is improving. I’m saving Keith.
Jason: It is hilarious to watch you Keith you have the presentation and moves of Homer Simpson. I’m saving Keith.
Robin: Keith you are a jolly good skater. Joe its been great to watch you. I’m saving Keith.
Ashley: Good job. I’m saving Keith.
So Gareth Thomas, Oona King, Luke Campbell, Shayne Ward and Joe Pasquale will have to rely on the public telephone vote to avoid the skate-off and progress to next week’s show.
