Rachel Riley And Pasha Kovalev became the fifth couple to leave Strictly Come Dancing as they lost the dance-off with Abbey Clancy and Aljaz Skorjanec in week 6.
Despite being 11 points clear of Dave Myers, Rachel found herself in the dance-off for the second time in three weeks. This time her follow contestant, Abbey Clancy, was just too strong for her.
Rachel was clearly disappointed to go, having just achieved her best score, 30, in the Saturday night show.
Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli all chose to save Abbey Clancy and Aljaz Skorjanec in the dance-off so it was time for Rachel Riley and Pasha Kovalev to leave Strictly Come Dancing. It was the Halloween special and whilst we were all expecting frights and shocks not many of us were expecting to see Abbey Clancy in the bottom two after a great Rumba which scored 34 to leave her joint second on the judges leaderboard.
It is hard to know whether Abbey isn’t that popular or whether her fans just thought she was safe this week with such a high score from the judges and didn’t bother to pick up the phone to vote. She certainly deserves to go much further. She can console herself with the knowledge that Kimberley Walsh had a similar scare last year.
Some of the judges were particularly outraged that Abbey was there. Craig commented: I cannot believe that the audience at home have put you in this position. You are fantastic.
So the lesson of Saturday night is , if you want someone to stay in the competition you need to vote for them. No one is safe if getting the joint second highest score of the night isn’t any protection against being in the bottom two dance-off.
We are down to ten couples now and the competition is getting gets tougher for everyone. Eight of the remaining celebs have not been in the dance-off yet and none of this week’s bottom four. Dave Myers, who is consistently the worst dancer still in the show, has yet to face a dance-off. Mind you in his case we know that once he is in the bottom two barring a miracle he will not survive.
Abbey Clancy and Aljaz Skorjanec were first to go in the dance-off as they repeated their very impressive Rumba to ‘Stay’ by Shakespeare’s Sister.
Rachel Riley And Pasha Kovalev reprised their the American Smooth to ‘I Put a Spell on You’ by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins.
We now have ten couples left in the battle to be Strictly Come Dancing champion 2013 and Natalie Gumede continues to impress. A fancied celeb, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, had a pretty grim time of it this week with her Jive. She looks like she has lost confidence and needs to put some work in on technique to get back on track. Susanna Reid is always in and around the top of the judges leaderboard so she should be pleased as should Patrick Robinson who had the best male celeb score, beating Ashley Taylor Dawson by one point.
So Halloween night is over and we have had more than our fair share of scares and frights. On to next week. Can’t wait.
