Victoria Pendleton became the seventh celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing as she and partner Brendan Cole lost the dance-off to Michael Vaughan and Natalie Lowe. It was time for Victoria to get on her bike after a score of 21 for her Salsa left her at the bottom of the leaderboard and the public vote for once didn’t rescue her.
Victoria raised her game in the dance-off but it wasn’t enough to sway the judges. Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Len Goodman all voted to keep Michael Vaughan in the competition so it was farewell to Victoria and partner Brendan Cole.

Michael Vaughan was relieved to survive the dance-off. His Latin dances are his weakness, he seems much more comfortable when he is dancing Ballroom.

At the top of the leaderboard for the fourth week in a row, Denise Van Outen and James Jordan look hard to beat. Whether they can win the Glitterball trophy depends on what support they get from the public vote. They certainly have the talent.

Dani Harmer looks to be heading for the final if she maintains the standard she set with Vincent Simone as they danced the Samba. She may well give Denise a run for her money.

Nicky Byrne would have been delighted to be joint second on the leaderboard after surviving last week’s dance-off. Let’s hope he can maintain this level in the coming weeks.

Louis Smith and Flavia Cacace again under-performed. Strong on paper, their partnership has so far failed to catch fire. Somehow Flavia is going to have to get Louis to unleash his inner performer.
