Keith Chegwin and his partner Olga Sharutenko were the seventh skating couple to leave Dancing On Ice in week 7 after a skate-off with Samia Ghadie and Sylvain Longchambon .
In the “Save Me” skate Keith skated first to Carl Orf’s O Fortuna from Carmina Burana. It was Keith’s fourth skate-off so he knew the ropes. Samia danced to Should I Stay Or Should I Go by The Clash and showed that she looks good and makes some good lines but her skating is pretty weak.
Karen Barber, Ashley Roberts and Robin Cousins all voted to save Samia, with Jason Gardiner supporting Keith, so it was goodbye to Keith. Personally I thought the decision was the wrong one, with Keith by far the better technical skater. Samia and Sylvain look good as a couple and that was what saved them but Samia has probably now gone further than her technical skills warrant. None of the judges really offered a clear reason for saving Samia. Samia can no longer rely on the public vote to keep her out of the bottom two.
Earlier in the evening we had seen the remaining six celebrities skate, with the judges leaderboard looking like this:
- 35.5 Matt Lapinskas (71 after score doubled for winning team challenge)
- 29.5 Gareth Thomas (59 after score doubled for winning team challenge)
- 24.5 Luke Campbell (49 after score doubled for winning team challenge)
- 30.5 Beth Tweddle
- 27 Samia Ghadie
- 25 Keith Chegwin
Matt was back with a stunning performance which was clearly the stand-out performance of the night. Gareth Thomas, Beth Tweddle and Matt Lapinskas still look most likely to be in the final.
